Taking care of your flowers
Did you know that taking care of your bouquet of flowers can extend their life so you can enjoy them a little while longer? Here are a few nifty tips on how to do just that…
- Don’t use cold water. Flowers like to be warm and prefer water that is tepid and not cold.
- Add a tablespoon of sugar to nourish flowers or a splash of bleach to inhibit bacterial growth (just ¼ teaspoon per liter). Both extend the life of the flowers.
- Display the bouquet away from full sun, heat, or hot and cold drafts. Also, position vase away from fruit bowls.
- Check the vase each day. Remove any dead or fading blooms to prevent bacteria damaging the healthy flowers.
- Change the water every day.
